Technical Product Manager

Remote, Central/Western European time zone

At Portside (portside.aero), we are developing a modern, cloud-based operating system for business aviation: a set of integrated solutions addressing major industry pain points. Our platform supports over 150 operators of business jet, helicopter, medevac and government fleets, as well as fractional jet ownership programs, charter brokers and others in the business aviation industry. We are based in San Francisco with a fully remote team spread across the US, Europe and Asia. Our founding team comes from Y Combinator, Harvard, Berkeley, Bain & Co. and has prior experience building successful companies. We are profitable, fast growing, well financed and are on a mission to digitize the business aviation industry.

We are looking for a Technical Product Manager to lead a new product initiative: a crew marketplace. We are working in collaboration with some of the largest business jet operators to develop a marketplace for matching contract and full-time crew members (pilots, flight attendants, aircraft mechanics) with companies that are looking to hire in this space. The position is fully remote (anywhere in the European time zone).

You will be responsible for all aspects of building a modern crew marketplace, including:

  • soliciting requirements from our business partners
  • translating high-level vision for the product into concrete development tasks
  • working with a designer
  • updating Confluence documentation and filing all necessary JIRA development stories
  • discussing deliverables with the development team and serving as a functional / domain expert for the development team
  • leading backlog estimation, sprint planning, and sprint review meetings
  • prioritizing backlog and resolving dependencies and bottlenecks
  • providing periodic progress updates to our business partners and others at the company
  • communicating with third-party vendors and suppliers to resolve integration /API issues
  • eventually demoing the product to the sales team and potential customers
  • otherwise doing whatever is necessary to get an MVP of this new product into production and then continue building, enhancing and expanding

Who you are:

  • a “roll up your sleeves, take responsibility and get code shipped” product owner
  • you like taking ownership of a problem and coming up with creative solutions
  • you are analytical and sufficiently technical to be in the details, however minor, of what you are building and how it works – this a role for a “doer” not a “visionary”.
  • you are self-sufficient and can play the roles of a product owner, product manager, business analyst, scrum master, etc. without having to rely on others
  • you are a hustler – if something needs to be done, you will find a way to get it done
  • you like working with data and have managed complex API integrations in the past
  • you are great with writing specs and technical documentation, as necessary
  • you are an excellent communicator, and can explain complex concepts in simple terms
  • you are comfortable making quick decisions and judgment calls; you are also self-aware, know your blind spots and know when to seek input from others
  • you are self-driven, well organized, curious, and tenacious

Must have:

  • prior experience as the sole / lead product manager / founder in an enterprise, SaaS or a similarly complex product space, leading a team of 8-10 people in developing a software solution from the ground up
  • excellent communication skills (English is required)
  • strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving skills
  • understanding of how REST APIs work, ability to read API documentation

What we offer:

  • a rapidly growing product company with a globally diversified and stable customer base
  • a fully remote position; work anywhere in the European time zone
  • a modern technology stack and a friendly and professional team
  • competitive compensation in the top 25% for any given market, position, experience and qualifications
  • stock option plan participation, with vesting that begins on day one
  • 2 team events per year organized by the company
  • 20 paid vacation days + sick days + all official holidays in your location
  • company laptop
  • English class reimbursement
